USGA Handicap Index Procedures
1 New Golfers
a. Rules & Etiquette Session
New golfers are required to attend the Rules & Etiquette
(R&E) session held once a month on Wednesday evenings
at 6pm for about one and half hour. It includes:
- Video show of the Rules & Etiquette while golfing
on the course.
- A questions & answers session. Participants will
be issued Rules book and handouts.
- Information on TMCC Golf Bye-laws and Booking Procedures.
b. Proficiency Certification
i. Part 1 - Skills Proficiency at Driving Range
It is held once a month on a Saturday morning for about
one and half hour. Sessions available are 10am or 11.30am
and each session can only accomodate a maximum of six
persons.
ii. Part 2 - Courtesy Round (Play 9 holes)
Scheduled dates for the courtesy round will be posted
on notice board.
- Usually held fortnightly on Wednesdays or Thursdays
for about two hours at either Garden or Tampines Course.
- Participants will be issued a 'P' certification
(PC) if the facilitator has assessed that he is able
to play on the course.
- Participants are required to submit at least five
(18 holes) scorecards from a 'slope rated' course
(9-hole scores may be combined). Only for maximum
HI 36.4 for men, 40.4 for ladies.
- Participants will then be issued handicap index
(HI) based on the scores submitted.
- If computed HI is higher than the maximum, participant
will be issued a 'Handicap Certificate with 'L' (local
handicap).
- Once a HI is issued, it cannot be withdrawn.
2. Existing members
Members who possess a PC for more than one year will
have to submit at least five scores to attain a Handicap
Index. In exceptional cases, members may be issued HI
based on five scores submitted and need not attend the
PC test or the courtesy round.
